While common, mass-produced art can fit specific spaces, there's something special about the unique appeal of vintage posters and original art for truly enhancing your environment. Vintage art holds a special place in interior design, adding depth, character, and a sense of history that brings a room to life. Happiest Kid Finds, located in the heart of Wilmington, North Carolina, stands out as a critical spot for finding carefully chosen vintage posters and original art pieces.
These pieces will surely add richness and personality to living and workspaces.
The store’s collection transcends the conventional art gallery model. “I want to be a part of fostering a new generation of collectors,” says store owner Milagros Melendez. She has transformed the space into a sanctuary for art enthusiasts who value the interplay between aesthetics and historical narrative.
These art pieces perfectly match all kinds of decor, from sleek modern to cozy classic, adding a personal touch and warmth to any space. Their unique charm often steals the spotlight, catching the eye and sparking curiosity. Why You Should Consider Buying Vintage Posters and Art
Each vintage poster is a portal to the past, holding stories and styles from different eras. Collectors value the historical context, enjoying a connection to times that shaped the artistic landscape. The appeal of vintage and retro art isn't just in its rarity; it's also in the aesthetic value it adds to any room. For some, investing in vintage art goes beyond mere aesthetics. Each piece is a celebration of the creativity and craftsmanship of bygone times, ensuring these expressions of culture and art are appreciated by future generations.
An excellent example is the 1930 Cherry Rocher French Liqueur Original Oversized Stone Lithograph Poster by the legendary artist Jean D'Ylen, available and on display at the Happiest Kid Finds gallery.
“Normally, with French posters, the larger size is four feet by five feet. This poster is a single sheet, so it’s unique since it is over 6 feet and one full panel,” says Melendez. "Anything more significant than five feet would often be printed in multiple sections and later pieced together. But this is on a complete sheet.”
Making the print was a labor of love 94 years ago. “The plate is a stone lithograph, so the artisans had to draw the design in reverse. This lithograph has at least 12 colors and different stones are carved for each color.” Melendez explains. “You can imagine the time, skill, and mastery to make this one piece. The lines would be blurry or messy if each stone weren't perfect. And it's in good condition, which is amazing since the large pieces don’t tend to hold up well.”
Choosing vintage and retro art is also an eco-conscious decision. It's about giving new life to existing pieces and reducing the need for new productions and the environmental impact associated with them. Moreover, these pieces often serve as conversation starters, enriching social interactions with stories about the art's origin, the era it represents, or the journey it took to become part of a collection.
