artist: Cecil Calvert Beall (1892-1967)
Born in Wyoming, Cecil Calvert Beall studied at the Pratt Institute and the Arts Students League. He excelled at watercolor and produced illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post. Shortly after painting a portrait of President Franklin D. Roosevelt he was appointed art director of the Democratic National Committee. An illustration of his appeared on a war bond that raised over 156 billion dollars and was later invited to record the Japanese surrender ceremony.
