condition: Good; linen backed poster with paper fill in at the top right corner and minor pigment loss to margin tears; minor paper loss at the at the bottom edge. The image itself is very clean; very strong colors.
This would make a great addition to your collection for home or office. It's a fine combination of humor and sophistication by an anonymous artist whose subject, a dandy of a cat in the role of ambassador to this Spanish brand of Cognac. "Este es el mejor" tranlates to "This is the BEST..." The poster informs us that the sole importers of the Cognac are Fraga. Alonso y Cia. of Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, a major city along Montevideo Bay.
The label features a portrait of Spain's most important writer of the Golden Age, Francisco de Quevedo ( Francisco Gómez de Quevedo Villegas y Santibáñez Cevallos ), a politician, poet, satirist, and novelist who lead the Conceptismo movement.
