condition: Good condition; the poster had been folded - there are visible areas of pigment loss and minor paper loss at the center of the folds as well as handling creases from normal wear; pin holes at the corners and edge tears. There is also a bit of paper loss (3/8") at the upper left side of the poster. Writing on the reverse shows through at the upper left side. Please note: There is a censor stamp (sticker) at the lower right side of the poster.
About the film and poster design:
Directed by George Cukor and starring Maggie Smith, the film is based on the novel by Graham Greene from 1969, a comedy about the relationship between a wild and adventurous aunt and her honorable nephew and the outrageous exploits that ensue upon their meeting at the cremation of his mother's remains.
The poster's design captures the elegant glamour and grace of the central figure capturing the art nouveau style and a distinct resemblance to the work of French artist, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Imagine, given the main character's penchant for the decadent lifestyle of Paris and having numerous lovers, the story could have easily been set in the late 1800s. She, a part of the French nightlife, could have taken Lautrec as one of her lovers, and this could have been his ode to her as one of his subjects that included entertainers Aristide Bruant, Jane Avril and Loie Fuller, to name a few.
